Meeting Notes

Monday, December 7

We met at 6:30 p.m. at Middleburg Park. Lion President Beth Sandifer presided over the meeting.

Attendance: We had 22 members and 6 guests present for the evening. Our guests were Jim Bednark and Kevin Mcleod from Silver Oak Academy and four students; Tracey Betters, Bernard Abrew, Nathaniel Lawrence and Nico Colbert.

Health & Welfare: Lion Terry Grable reported that Sandy was going in for surgery on December 8th.

Program: Lion President Beth turned the meeting over to Jim, Kevin and the students from Silver Oak Academy to tell us about themselves, what is going on at the school, and what the academy is doing for the community.

Reports: Lion Larry Stambaugh reported on the progress of getting our vent hood installed in the kitchen. He also said that we got the approval for stoning the parking area back as far as he mows. He also reported on the Canned Nut sales.

President Beth reported on the Home Merchandise Auction. It turned out to be a very good fund raiser. She also reported on the Community Service Work at Carroll Hospital Center.

Lion Linda Bowers reported on our $1200 Cash & Dinner Club. We will be planning our next one for April 17th.

Lion Karen Mehring reported that the American Heritage Essays are under way. Our Awards Night will be on February 1st.

Lion Karen Mehring and Lion Susan Cox were putting together the Christmas Care Packages for distribution to our community elderly and shut-ins.

Business: We approved donations to Union Bridge Church of the Brethren Early Learning, New Midway-Woodsboro Middle School Caring, Betty Weisheir’s son and Linda Bossler.

The 50-50 drawing with a value of $12.00 was won by Lion Wayne Weeks, who donated it back to the building fund. Lion President Beth adjourned the meeting at 8:39 p.m.

Monday, December 21

Our meeting was cancelled due to weather.

Club Reminders

  • Our first meeting of January will be on Monday the 4th at Middleburg Park and will be a carry-in potluck meal. We will have a speaker from Camp Possibilities, a summer camp for diabetic children.
