IntroducingThe Terra Rubra Lions
Terra Rubra means "red earth" in
Latin, and refers to the distinctive red soil in northwest Carroll
County, Maryland. It's also the name of the estate in nearby Keysville
where Francis Scott Key, author of The Star-Spangled Banner, was born
in 1779.
The Terra Rubra Lions are a group of your neighbors
who have come together to serve our community. Our club was chartered in 1966, and
since then we've been offering a wide range of services to Carroll County, including
college scholarships, vision assistance, loans of convalescent equipment,
youth athletic programs, and much more.
We are proud to serve the rural Carroll and Frederick County
communities of Keysville, Keymar, Bruceville, Rocky Ridge, Detour, Ladiesburg, and
Middleburg.
The motto of Lions Clubs International is We Serve.
At Terra Rubra, service to our neighbors goes hand-in-hand with having a great time!

2012
Once again, Terra Rubra is going nuts! We're selling Deluxe Mixed Nuts for the
holidays. A 37-ounce can of these lightly salted premium nuts includes pecans, almonds, hazelnuts,
macadamias, and brazils, and not a single peanut to be found. We also have a yummy assortment
of glazed and chocolate-covered nuts and raisins. They're $20 a can for either variety,
and will satisfy the pickiest nut-lover. See any Terra Rubra member to order, or contact us at
nuts@TerraRubraLions.org.
Santa took some time out of his busy holiday schedule to drop in on Terra Rubra.
Some lucky youngsters from the area came by to share some punch and cookies with the Jolly
Old Elf and let him know what they want for Christmas. Check out some
photo memories from the visit!
Coming Soon ...
Planning is underway for our 2012 Sportsman's Raffle. We're still selecting the firearms we'll
be awarding, but the date is set for January 28 from 1-4 PM. Of course, we
always put on a great supper on the day of the drawings. As soon as we have the guns picked out, we'll post
them here on our Web site, so check back often. Get the details HERE.
What's New
As you can see from our Upcoming Events, our 2012 activities
calendar is a full one. There are a lot of familiar events, like our Crab Feeds and
1200 Clubs, and a new Cash Bingo night. Take a moment and check out all the fun stuff coming
in the new year, and come on out to support the Terra Rubra Lions.
Progress continues on our kitchen construction. All the big stuff is pretty well done,
and we're tying up a few last loose ends before we get the final inspections by the State and County.
We've acquired a few new commercial-grade appliances, and we're exploring some ways to create more
efficient storage space. (There just never seems to be enough of that!)
