IntroducingThe Terra Rubra Lions

Terra Rubra means "red earth" in Latin, and refers to the distinctive red soil in northwest Carroll County, Maryland. It's also the name of the estate in nearby Keysville where Francis Scott Key, author of The Star-Spangled Banner, was born in 1779.

The Terra Rubra Lions are a group of your neighbors who have come together to serve our community. Our club was chartered in 1966, and since then we've been offering a wide range of services to Carroll County, including college scholarships, vision assistance, loans of convalescent equipment, youth athletic programs, and much more.

We are proud to serve the rural Carroll and Frederick County communities of Keysville, Keymar, Bruceville, Rocky Ridge, Detour, Ladiesburg, and Middleburg.

The motto of Lions Clubs International is We Serve. At Terra Rubra, service to our neighbors goes hand-in-hand with having a great time!

President's Message

Lion Kevin Trump

July 2010

Hello, friends of Terra Rubra Lions. I'm Kevin Trump, President of the Terra Rubra Lions Club. As incoming President, the first thing I would like to do is acknowledge and thank past President Beth Sandifer for a very active and fruitful term. She helped to rally the club in completion of our new Activities Building, which is now the talk of the town. This was a tough chore in itself, and still while this task was going on she somehow found the time to put together several new club activities to raise more money for the community. The club did have a record year in terms of the amount of activities and the money raised for the community. Lion Beth has done a great job and I can only hope to fill her shoes this year as incoming President.

My goal this year will be to continue with our new activities, which although successful, in some cases could have used a bit more refinement. We've learned how to deal ...

What's New

The second Terra Rubra Crab Feed will be coming up on July 24th, and it could be another sell-out. Tickets can still be had, but you'd better move fast! There will be three more throughout the summer, on the fourth Saturday in August, September, and October. Come on out!

It's not too late to sign up for the Terra Rubra Classic golf tournament. It will be on Friday, July 23 at the Links at Gettysburg, one of the finest courses in the area.

The new well at our Middleburg Building has passed all its inspections, and is pumping like a champ! With this done, we can continue work on our kitchen. We're also working on the sound quality in the dining room, and we've got a few ideas to take care of the echo [echo echo echo].

The Terra Rubra Lions are now on Facebook! Fan our page, and you can keep up with our events, projects, and activities.
